The Artist
My name is Mark Whittaker, I am a professional pet portraits artist born and brought up in Newport, Gwent, South Wales where I live with my partner Julie, pet dog Max and Mischief the cat.
From an early age I have always had an interest in drawing animals, particularly dogs.
Originally starting in pencil pet portraits I soon discovered the pleasure of painting in pastels which I have been solely using for the past ten years. I find pastels the best medium for portraying the realism and likeness that I aim to achieve in my commissioned portraits.
I am an entirely self taught artist whose original paintings are now hanging in private collections in the UK and as far afield as Canada, USA and Finland.
Painting portraits of pets is something that has given me many years of satisfaction and every new commission accepted I take with new enthusiasm and a new challenge as I believe that an artist never stops learning.
